Walk to College Event - Friday 13th May
Healthy travel into College next Friday and get prizes!!
Staff and students are being encouraged to take part in the CONNECT healthy travel to work event on Friday, May 13.
There are prizes, goody bags and free breakfast refreshments up for grabs for those who take part.
Participants are being asked to either walk, cycle or run into work.
A walk is being led by the Council’s re:fresh team from Witton Park, meeting at 8am on the car park.
Witton Park is an official park and stride venue where people can park their car all day for free and walk into town.
People are being asked to take a selfie of their journey and Tweet it to either @ConnectBWD or email it to: email@example.com.
The pictures will be used in a gallery of images on the Connect website with each going into a prize draw with the chance to win a free Mall voucher and free month’s travel pass, sponsored by Connect.
The Council’s Connect project, a scheme to promote sustainable transport options in the borough, is behind the event in conjunction with re:fresh, the Council’s free leisure service.
The event which is taking place during National Walk to Work Month is aimed to help staff realise that it is achievable to use healthy travel for all or part of your journey to work on any day of the week.
This not only helps staff to save money but helps reduce congestion on our borough’s roads, a key aim of the Council’s Connect project.
It is hoped walkers will finish at Blackburn College’s Scholars Restaurant, where as an incentive, those taking part will be entitled to a complimentary breakfast.
Staff and students are being asked to register in advance by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org stating whether they intend to walk from Witton or from another location.
Those who start from Witton Park will receive a goody bag and tickets will be handed out for the free breakfast refreshments at the college.
The walk from Witton Park will leave at 8:15am and should take around half an hour to get into the Town Centre.
For those registering their own healthy travel to work which is over half a mile will receive a free breakfast token.
Managers are being encouraged to be flexible where possible to allow as many people as possible to take part.
